Hawk Host Review By User Ardee

The Hawk Host user Ardee shared his experience on using Hawk Host

The sign-up process was a breeze; we got our account information *minutes* after our payment has been processed. Although it took 24 hours for DNS to propagate (which is normal), Hawk Host gave us a temporary URL so that we can FTP the files. This means that we can already use the host to upload while waiting for DNS propagation.

We had a little problem however with our credit card falsely labeled as “fraud” (the reason being our order came from outside the US, from the Philippines to be exact). This however was ironed quickly by Hawk Host’s excellent technical support. A few minutes of call, and our credit card was approved.

So far Hawk Host has not been down under our watch. So far satisfied with their service.

Hawk Host Review By User martin

The Hawk Host user martin shared his experience on using Hawk Host

Let’s see, signed up with Hawk Host on January, due to to my previous host being unreliable. I have about 4 total domains and I get about 35 Thousand unique hits a month.

Reliability,

The server I’m on (mars) was only down three times, two of the times were for planned maintenance. So overall, I have a very good uptime.

Support: Don’t need to send in a lot of tickets, but the times I do, they get answered in under 45 minutes.

Features,

Meh, it has everything I need want, so it’s all good.

Pricing.

I’m a cheap bastard, so I used a coupon to only pay $65 for the whole year, and I get 10GB of storage and 100GB of bandwidth.

How do I make a sub directory (or sub folder) act as the public_html for main domain in Hawk Host?

The code blow is copy from BlueHost, and is useful to any web hosting with Cpanel.

The main domain on the hosting account uses the public_html directory for all of its Web site files. Addon domains use sub directories inside the public_html directory. In order to also set up your main domain to use a subdirectory on your hosting account you will need to set up a redirect in the .htaccess file in the public_html folder so that the server knows that any request for your main domain will be redirected to a subdirectory on public_html.

To setup the rewrite/redirect, edit the ~/public_html/.htaccess file. Insert the following code block and make modifications as noted in the (#) comments.

# .htaccess main domain to subdirectory redirect
# Copy and paste the following code into the .htaccess file
# in the public_html folder of your hosting account
# make the changes to the file according to the instructions.
# Do not change this line.
RewriteEngine on
# Change yourdomain.com to be your main domain.
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?yourmaindomain.com$
# Change ’subdirectory’ to be the directory you will use for your main domain.
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/subdirectory/
# Don’t change this line.
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
# Change ’subdirectory’ to be the directory you will use for your main domain.
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /subdirectory/$1
# Change yourdomain.com to be your main domain again.
# Change ’subdirectory’ to be the directory you will use for your main domain
# followed by / then the main file for your site, index.php, index.html, etc.
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?yourmaindomain.com$
RewriteRule ^(/)?$ subdirectory/index.php [L]

Visitors to your Web site will not be able to tell that your main domain is using a subdirectory, they will still see the Web site address as http://www.yourdomain.com/page.html.

Hawk Host Review By User db09

The Hawk Host user db09 shared his experience on using Hawk Host

I have used Hawk Host in the past for a forum (pre-Litespeed change over) I was running and was very pleased. My boss needed a host for her site and Hawk Host was one of the first that came to mind. After a quick browse here, it seemed like a no brainer.

I’m happy to say that Hawkhost is still a great host for me and in some aspects, even better than before.

The thing that has really impressed me is the server and network speed. Both of the sites I have with them are purely static content and are noticeably faster than any other host I have used. Proof, to me anyway, that Litespeed really does make a difference. Uptime has been great as well – I’m sitting at 100% since August 26th.

Support is helpful, I have only needed them once for help with a weird directory issue. I submitted the ticket as medium priority at 10:30 am, first response was at 11:14 and the issue was resolved at 12:08. Not as fast as some other hosts but still adequate by my standards. I wish they would have told me what the issue was, I have never run in to the problem before in 9 years of paid web hosting, but whatever. It got fixed and I guess that is all that matters.
