In my short experience, they have provided days, sometimes weeks in advance of a server upgrade with plenty of notice if there could be possible downtime. Plus, they have a “Service Level Agreement” which means they begin reimbursing your cost if they drop below 99.9% uptime. So far I’ve experienced 100% uptime and an incredibly fast and powerful server.

They are simple, no frills shared cpanel hosting. I just want hosting that works, which is what I now have.

I signed up and once my welcome email came in later that evening I noticed my IP address was not present in the email and my nameservers hadn’t yet resolved to the new host. Also, I signed up with a coupon that hadn’t been applied to the billing system yet. I immediately went on the live chat and spoke with Tony and had everything resolved within 3 minutes of the start of the live chat. About 20 seconds after mentioning the billing issue I hit refresh on the billing site and Tony already had the issue resoved. He was kind and willing to deal with my numerous brain farts I had during our conversation. My site was up running its temporary page about 20 minutes after our conversation and the nameservers had resolved by then.

All in all, the problems were small and likely would have been fixed very soon had I not been waiting anxiously for the welcome email, as Tony seemed very aware of the problem as soon as I logged onto the Live Chat.

So far things have not gone off without a hitch, but the support has been present and quick when it needed to be, which I prefer to see over an automated system with no problems that takes hours to get support from. Congrats to Tony on making my first few hours with Hawk Host my best hosting experience yet.

I’d always planned to do a review of them after my 12 months was up, to add to the many reviews here already – so here it is.

They’ve been excellent!
- I haven’t noticed any downtime on any of my websites
- cPanel works really fast (I’ve been with some others where cPanel seems to take forever to load
- Support response is always prompt and extremely helpful (not that I ever really need to contact them)
- I and my target audience are in Australia and latency was going to be a concern for me, I would have signed up with an Australian provider if it weren’t for the great reputation of Hawk Host, however the speeds to my website(s) have been fantastic at all hours of the day.

I did have an issue with one of my domains early on, support were able to identify that it was caused by a script on my main page that was causing the server to overload. Instead of terminating my account or forcing me to VPS they actually found what the issue was in the PHP coding and helped resolve it…! I thought it was good they take the time to identify issues like this, which obviously means that whatever monitoring tools they have in place are working really well – and are keeping the servers response times as good as they can be

The ONLY issue I’ve had is that sometimes (for whatever reason) webmail can be slow… I dont know why, and it hasn’t even been too much of a bother that I’ve had to log a ticket for it… (i usually just put up with it) but my website itself doesn’t experience the same issue during the same time, so I haven’t ever worried about it. But I thought I may as well be honest as possible in this review… that is all I can fault.

Sure they may be a little dearer than other hosts, but having access to restore my own backups, the great speeds and reliability all make up for all of the other over sellers out there.

Sign-up experience:
My time zone is 12 hours ahead of Hawk Host’s offices, so when I placed my order in the evening on a Sunday night, the billing department was not open. I waited about 3 hours after signing up and paying through credit card before opening a ticket. My password for their help desk system was not the same as in the client area (and was not supplied in a welcome email) so I had to use the forgotten password feature to access the ticket area. I initially made a ticket to support, forgetting that the request was billing-related. It received a response literally within a minute and was pushed to the billing department. 3 hours later a response was received from Tony, the CEO of Hawk Host. There was a minor abnormality which had to be explained and then I was activated and ready to go. The experience was not unpleasant, but I would have to say I didn’t overly feel welcomed (fast support and responses, but very to-the-point in nature). I do understand though that I was probably one of many new customers to be dealt with by billing so no worries there.

Support:
I can’t yet give a good assessment as I haven’t had to use it for any server issues. However, I did open a ticket to enable SSH access which was again responded to within a minute.

Speed/servers:
I would say the speed is alright – can’t assess this too much as it’s only been a few days and my home internet connection is slow anyways. However, one thing I wasn’t expecting was to see server loads averaging at about 9. As of this posting I see:
Load Averages: 10.10 9.69 9.78
Can others please comment and say whether this is normal? I believe the servers are 4x quad-cores with 12GB memory. Ping times tested from 2 different connections overall are OK compared to other sites, but there seems to be some jitter and/or inconsistency in results, which I did not observe with most other sites.

Overall assessment:
To conclude my first 3 days with Hawk Host were good. Sign-up and activation was reasonable and support responses were very fast. I am however slightly concerned about the server speed and load (seemingly high-ish averages and strange ping responses), although as of yet it hasn’t affected my usage of the package.

Sign-up: 4/5 (process was slightly confusing)
Support: 5/5 (very fast, so far gets the job done)
Speed: 3.5/5 (load and ping responses not what I expected, but still very usable)
Overall: 4.5/5 (all in all still a very good experience)

I would have to say HawkHost has been wonderful host. Their downtime is kept to minimum and those service interruptions are generally upgrades, to server systems.

Tony and Cody are great and reliable. When I first signed up, everyone always talks about how low price can lead to unreliable host, but I have found them to be super reliable.

Hawkhost is a definite A+ host!
